- Brokers, lenders and advisory are developing healthcare-focused groups
- Pension funds and other institutional investors are increasingly forming healthcare-focused partnerships or carving out specific allocation.

Dutchman Michiel Willems studied law and journalism in the Netherlands and United Kingdom. After gaining experience in Malaysia and India he returned to London to embark on a career in writing and daily news reporting. With global experience and an open mind, Michiel currently works as an editor in REFI Europe’s London office. Before joining Pageant Media, he was with S&P Global and Euromoney.
Andrew Ovey, Head of Healthcare, AXA Investment Managers – Real Assets
Andrew is responsible for originating, executing and managing healthcare real estate asset and portfolio investments, primarily across Europe. He joined AXA IM – Real Assets in 2015 and has over 20 years of experience in the healthcare and real estate industry. Andrew holds a Masters Degree in Engineering from the University of Oxford.
Benjamin Davis, CEO, Octopus Real Estate
Benjamin joined Octopus in 2010. He is responsible for the management of Octopus Real Estate, a specialist fund manager formed in May 2019 through combining Octopus Healthcare and Octopus Property. Benjamin previously led Octopus’ Intermediate Capital investment team. Prior to Octopus, Benjamin worked at YFM Equity Partners investing across a range of sectors, and worked in corporate finance and venture capital at investment bank Interregnum in the UK and USA. He has an MBA from the University of Cambridge and a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from the University of Auckland, New Zealand.
Kenneth Mackenzie, CEO, Target Fund Managers
Kenneth is a chartered accountant with 40 years’ business leadership experience. The last 13 of which have been in healthcare. In addition to his responsibilities as Target’s chief executive, Kenneth has other numerous roles. He leads the creation and management of Target’s client funds as well as overseeing fundraising and investor liaison for Target Healthcare REIT. In 2005 he led the acquisition of Independent Living Services (ILS), Scotland’s largest independent domiciliary-care provider. After growing the business by acquisition and installing a new senior management team, he engineered its sale to a private equity house. Prior to that, Kenneth had negotiated the proposed acquisition of a large UK independent-living business in a JV with the US care-home operator, Sunrise Senior Living.
Christiane Conrads, Attorney & Head of German Real Estate Desk, PWC
Christiane has experience in all aspects of commercial real estate, with particular emphasis on developments and investment work. Christiane advises national and international corporations, investors and banks on real estate law, including in particular acquisitions and disposals. She also advises real property owners and occupiers on various matters of asset and facility management.
John Gladstone, Director, Jones Lang LaSalle Corporate Finance at JLL
John Gladstone leads JLL’s European Healthcare Team. He advises across a wide range of healthcare sectors from nursing care, retirement, primary care and hospitals. Although transactions tend to be supported by underlying real estate value, his corporate finance background gives him the ability to underwrite the supporting operating business and reimbursement regime. He has worked on capital markets transactions from the Nordics, CEE, Italy and Ireland. John works closely with JLL’s network of capital markets and healthcare specialists often forming the link to Pan European and global specialist healthcare investors.
